Facilitators Training for Inter-Religious Dialogue

.
.Facilitators Training for Inter-Religious Dialogue.

.

Despite the fact that inter-religious dialogue has developed and increased its momentum in the last few years, both in Israel and elsewhere, there still is a shortage of professionals in the field of group facilitation who combine a religious background and commitment with professional expertise on psychological group dynamics, required for relating to the religious world and language of the persons concerned who take part in this process.

In an effort to meet this requirement, Mosaica has been developing a unique training program for professional facilitators in the field of inter-religious dialogue, who will have both a religious worldview and a professional background, knowledge and understanding of group dynamics processes.

For the implementation of the program, a first course was launched in October 2007, run under two professional facilitators (Jewish and Muslim).

Participation requirements in the program included: religious background and commitment; suitable academic background; and familiarity with group process and psychological concepts.

Since there are no religious facilitators for inter-religious dialogue in Israel who might have been skilled to train such a group, the syllabus is being developed by both the facilitators, who are in charge mainly of the group dynamics process, and the national-historical aspect of the conflict, and the participants themselves, who bring their deep knowledge of the religious, cultural, and historical portions of the syllabus.

Aims of the facilitators' program:

Widening the scope of Mosaica's activities by the program graduates, who will facilitate inter-religious dialogue groups, under the professional guidance of Mosaica.
Writing instruction books on inter-religious dialogue by the program graduates (as part of the requirements for becoming a professional facilitator), based on their studies and experience of the multi-dimensional model.
A future aim is for Mosaica to present the multi-dimensional model to other organizations, who deal with conflicts in the Middle East and elsewhere, as a tool for advancing professional training, and to offer them professional assistance during the implementation of their dialogue programs in their regions.

The program is divided into three main areas of learning, spread over two years:

First Year:

1. Experiencing group dynamics in a single-religious and inter-religious setting.
2. Studying theories on relevant subjects (group processes; dialogue between different identities; conflict management, etc.)

Second Year:

3. Writing instruction manuals.
4. Internship (stage) accompanied by professional guidance of Mosaica

Graduates will receive a certificate on the successful completion of training in these three areas.
